Orvio — Analytics Dashboard
A comprehensive product redesign for a real-time analytics SaaS. The goal was to reduce chart-junk, speed up data comprehension, and give users a dashboard that felt fast even when querying millions of records.
Phase 1
Discovery & Research
I started with stakeholder interviews across engineering, customer success, and 8 power-users. The pain points were consistent: heavy charts that took 2-3 seconds to render, cluttered navigation, and a colour palette that failed for colour-blind users.
- Audited the existing IA with card-sorting exercises
- Ran a competitive analysis of 6 analytics products
- Mapped 3 critical user journeys to streamline navigation
Phase 2
Visual Design & System
With the structural foundation set, I moved into visual design. The old interface used a light-only theme with 5 different chart libraries. I unified everything into a single design system with 3 chart primitives, a dark-first colour palette, and WCAG 2.1 AA compliance.
- Created 64 components in a shared Figma library
- Designed a custom chart engine scaffold for D3.js on the front end
- Reduced perceived load by 40% with skeleton states + optimistic updates
Results
Outcome & Impact.
Faster chart render
User retention (6mo)
WCAG compliance
The redesign shipped on schedule and the team observed an immediate drop in support tickets related to data interpretation. NPS for the dashboard section rose from 32 to 67 in the first quarter.
